Mitisubishi Outlander

The Mitsubishi Outlander Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle was officially released in 2013. These are a comfortable, large volume, versatile AWD SUV and would suit those with regular long commutes as well as using the vehicle around town.

The Outlander PHEV is powered by two 60kW electric motors, one at each end. There’s also a 2.0L 87kW petrol engine that charges the 12kWh Lithium-ion battery and supplies torque when necessary. The most notable feature is the extended range that the on-board charging offers, because you can charge the battery while driving.

The Outlander PHEV has a 12kWh battery which provides motion and is charged in the same way as a Nissan Leaf battery. This allows the vehicle to drive in excess of 50km on battery alone and up to 800km further with the petrol engine.  The engine operates as a generator supplying electricity to the electric motors. The petrol engine can supply additional power to the wheels if required, for such tasks as accelerating to pass another vehicle or driving up a steep hill. The maximum available power is 150kWh.

The Outlander PHEV is rated for towing at 1500kg with a braked trailer, and 750kg unbraked. This vehicle gives people the significant opportunity to reduce petrol consumption on short trips and to 1.8L/100km on longer journeys when battery charging is from the on-board 2.0L engine.

The Outlander PHEV is a great choice for managing petrol consumption around town and allowing for straight-forward long distance travel in the one vehicle.
